Description
Flex shares are new for 2018! Traditionally, CSA shares are put together each week by the farmer, without any option to customize. Flex shares, though, will give members the chance to select parts of their own box every week. Here’s how it works: flex share members will pick up at our farm stand in Rio, a few miles north of Galesburg. You’ll see several bins of in-season produce just for our flex members — up to 15 or so different items — depending on the season. With a small flex share, you’ll be able to take 4-5 different items of your choice from the table. So, for example, one week in the middle of July might have the option to take 2 things from this list: 2 pounds tomatoes, 1 large bell peppers, 2 pounds red potatoes, 6 ears of sweet corn; and 3 things from this list: a zucchini, 2 cucumbers, a basil bunch, 2 onions, a pint of cherry tomatoes, or a pound of green beans. Doubling up on one item would be an option, too (you want more tomatoes? you can take four pounds as your two items!).
Each week will vary some in its customization; in the early season, we’ll have fewer options, so you may only have 7 or 8 items to choose from. Mid-season and later, you’ll have more extensive options. We’ll have clear instructions posted at the pick up and included in our weekly newsletter, so you’ll always know what’s available. And, someone will always be nearby working the farm stand to help you out!
The small flex share is comparable in size to our traditional half-share option. It’s great for couples and smaller families who don’t necessary cook every day. Check out the half share pics to get a sense of quantity. Runs the full 24-week season May 24th through November 1st.
